FIA to Launch Mobile App Offering Immigration Clearance in 10 Seconds

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is set to introduce a new AI-powered e-immigration mobile application and electronic immigration gates (e-gates) at airports to significantly reduce passenger waiting times and streamline the boarding process. The development was outlined by Mustafa Hameed Malik, Director of the FIA’s Integrated Border Management System (IBMS), in a video message shared on social media.

Explaining the evolution of Pakistan’s border management framework, Malik said the IBMS plays a central role in strengthening immigration controls, improving coordination among government agencies, and enabling technology-driven border security. As part of the upgrade, FIA is installing e-gates at airports, allowing eligible travellers to clear immigration independently by scanning their passports without interacting with immigration staff. According to Malik, the entire clearance process will take around 10 seconds, drastically reducing queues at airports.

Malik explained that passengers will scan their passports at the e-gates, after which their data will be automatically entered into FIA systems. The process will be fully digital and contactless, improving efficiency and passenger experience while maintaining strong security controls.

The FIA is also preparing to launch an AI-powered e-immigration mobile application, aimed at preventing illegal immigration and human smuggling. Under the proposed system, travellers will download the app and enter their personal details, passport information, flight number, and ticket data in advance.

The FIA’s systems will then verify the information through official databases, including CNIC and passport records. Using machine learning, the system will automatically generate passenger profiles to strengthen risk assessment and screening at immigration checkpoints.
