New PECTAA Exam Policy 2026 Gives Choice to Private Schools

The Punjab Education authorities have introduced a new PECTAA exam policy for 2026, bringing a major change for private schools across the province. Under the updated policy, private schools that are not affiliated with PECTAA will have the option to participate, rather than being bound to appear in centrally conducted examinations.

According to official details, PECTAA will conduct examinations only for Class 8 (Grade 8) in 2026, while Class 5 exams will continue under the School-Based Assessment (SBA) system within schools. The move is aimed at reducing pressure on younger students while giving flexibility to private institutions.

What the New PECTAA Exam Policy 2026 Says

Under the revised framework:

  • Class 8 exams will be conducted by PECTAA at designated examination centers
  • Participation is mandatory for government, PEF, and PIMA schools
  • Private schools without PECTAA affiliation may choose whether or not to participate
  • Class 5 exams will remain school-based (SBA) with no external exam centers
  • Education officials say this policy balances standardized assessment with institutional autonomy.
