The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is preparing to introduce new currency notes with updated designs and advanced security features, with reports suggesting the launch could take place towards the end of 2026. While the designs have reportedly been shortlisted, final approval from the federal government and cabinet is still pending, delaying the formal announcement.
According to the Security Printing Corporation of Pakistan, the new banknotes will include modern anti-counterfeiting features to enhance security and durability. Senior Printing Manager Aamir Shams confirmed that consultations between SBP and the Corporation have already been completed. Once the designs receive official approval, the printing process is expected to take at least two months, as the required modern machinery is already in place.
What to Expect in New Currency Designs
While the final designs have not been publicly released, sources indicate that the new notes will feature:
- Enhanced security threads and watermarks
- Updated design elements
- Improved resistance against counterfeiting
- These upgrades aim to strengthen Pakistan’s currency system and align it with international security standards.
