The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a complete shutdown of gas supply in Karachi for 48 hours due to a severe gas shortage and low system pressure, causing concern among domestic and industrial consumers across the city.
According to an SSGC spokesperson, the gas suspension will begin tomorrow at 8:00 AM and will remain in effect until 8:00 AM on January 5, as the company works to stabilize its supply system.
SSGC officials stated that the utility is currently facing an acute gas shortfall, which has significantly affected overall gas availability. Low line-pack levels and reduced system pressure have already been causing interruptions, forcing the company to implement a temporary citywide shutdown to prevent further damage to the network.
During the shutdown period, all industrial units, including power generation plants, will remain without gas supply. The move is expected to impact industrial operations, power production, and large commercial consumers.

SSGC said the shutdown is necessary to restore pressure levels and ensure safe and stable gas distribution once supply resumes.
The gas utility has urged residents and businesses to cooperate and exercise patience during the shutdown. Officials assured consumers that gas supply will be restored as soon as system pressure stabilizes and the situation improves.
SSGC also advised consumers to remain cautious while using gas appliances once supply is resumed.
