The Sindh High Court has imposed a ban on the appointment of faculty members to non-teaching administrative positions in universities across Sindh. The decision, reported by 24NewsHD, directs all public sector universities to immediately discontinue the practice of assigning academic staff additional administrative charges, including look-after and OPS appointments.
Under the court’s orders, no PhD holder or faculty member can be appointed as a registrar or to any other non-teaching administrative post. The move aims to ensure that academic staff focus on teaching and research, while administrative roles are filled through proper, merit-based procedures.

The court has further instructed authorities to initiate permanent appointments for key administrative positions without delay. Universities have been given a two-month deadline to complete the appointment of registrars, controllers of examinations, and deans to strengthen institutional governance.
Warning of strict consequences, the court stated that vice-chancellors will face action if they violate the orders or fail to comply within the given timeframe. The ruling is expected to bring greater transparency and accountability to university administration in Sindh.
